2773 BC, December 8, Friday —Egypt:

Egypt successfully invented the first solar calendar in the world. Other calendars are based on the moon.

The calendar consists of 365 days. There are twelve 30-day months plus a 5-day holiday thrown in at the end of the year for good measure. The 30-day months are divided into three 10-day weeks, so get out your fingers and toes and start dating.

There are three seasons.
• Akhet (The Inundation)
• Peret (Growth)
• Shemu (Harvest)

The farmers knew about the calendar, but weren’t sure who was the Pharaoh.
