Ötzi the Iceman was killed in a fight with a neighboring tribe. It is said that he bravely killed two of his foes with the same arrow, and perhaps another with his flint knife before succumbing to blood loss from an arrow shot into his left shoulder from behind followed by a traumatic blow to his head.

Ötzi was 45 years old, 5 ft 5 inches tall and weighed 110 lbs. Although skinny strong, well-armed and crafty as a fox he did have some health issues such as whipworm, age-induced deterioration to his spine, right knee and ankles.

Ötzi grew up near Feldthurns, but spent his adulthood in the valleys 50 kilometers to the north.
