Transliteration: And called God the firmament Heaven and were the evening and the morning day the second.

Genesis 1:8 in English (KJV):

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Commentary:

The word “firmament” is an unfortunate translation of the Hebrew word “raqia.” A better translation is “expanse” to describe the atmosphere. This is corrected in the English Standard Version. It is possible the expanse not only included the atmosphere, but extended to include all of outer space.
